LETTER FROM THE INCOMING CEO
by Gerry Zack, CCEP, CFE, CIA
The day I made 545 friends
October 16, 2017 is a day I’ll remember for a long time. That’s the day that SCCE & HCCA sent
out the email announcing my appointment
as Incoming CEO. That same morning,
Roy made the announcement at SCCE’s
Compliance & Ethics Institute.
He also suggested that it would
be nice if you connected with
me on LinkedIn. By the end of
the day, I had 545 new LinkedIn
contacts (and LinkedIn sent me
a “we noticed you’ve had a lot of
activity” notice). And that number
has been rising steadily ever since.
I’ve been overwhelmed and very
humbled by this response. But it’s not
the sheer quantity of new connections
that impresses me so much. Many of you
wrote very sincere welcome notes with
your invitations to connect and many
wished me success. Many offered to help
me if needed. It made the whole process
feel much more like making friends than
I’ve been a member of SCCE since
2009 and have always thought the SCCE
& HCCA membership was special. Not
until now, however, did I realize just how
dedicated all of you are to the Compliance
and Ethics profession. The recurring
theme that came through in your messages
was one of passion for the profession
and dedication towards continuing the
success of this association—the success
that would never have happened without
the leadership of Roy, along with the
commitment of the many board members,
the faculty, and hundreds of volunteer
authors and speakers.
Working alongside Roy over the next
year is a unique opportunity for me to
learn the inner details of the organization.
A lot of care has been taken in coming
up with this transition plan. It puts
the organization in excellent position
to continue its role of supporting the
profession. As I write this, I am just getting
my feet wet, still in the process of making
the physical move from Maryland to
Minnesota. By the time you read this, all
of that should be behind me, and I’ll have
the privilege of working with Roy and the
great team of association employees.
Over the next year, I plan to be a bit
of a road warrior, making it to as many
SCCE & HCCA events as I can. I want to
meet as many of you as possible and hear
firsthand your thoughts, concerns, and
opinions about the state of our profession
and what your expectations are of this
organization. So, when you see me, please
introduce yourself. Let’s talk.
And if you haven’t connected with me
yet on LinkedIn, what are you waiting for?
I need more friends!
Please don’t hesitate to call me about anything any time.
